HBO has dropped a new look at House of the Dragon Season 3, giving fans a fresh tease of what is coming next in the story. The image and details come from HBO and production updates shared around the series, which is based on George R. R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

The new season is set to start on June 21, in the United States. It will have eight episodes. The story continues the Targaryen civil war and focuses on the fight for the Iron Throne. The tone of the new poster, with its heavy and dark style, hints that the conflict is getting more intense and more violent.

According to HBO’s production information, Ryan Condal is the main showrunner for the season. The writing team includes several returning writers like Sara Hess and David Hancock, and the season was filmed between March and October 2025. HBO also confirmed that a fourth season has already been ordered, showing the studio is planning a long continuation of the story.

The cast brings back many familiar faces. Matt Smith returns as Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower. Other key characters like Aemond, Aegon II, and Corlys Velaryon are also part of the season. A few new characters are joining too, including roles played by James Norton, Tommy Flanagan, and Dan Fogler, which suggests the story will expand even more into the world of Westeros.

The new look mainly focuses on the idea of power and survival. The phrase “Win or Die” shown in the artwork sums up the mood of the season, where every side is fighting for control and no one is safe.
