How Much JK Rowling Makes Daily From ‘Harry Potter’ E-Books Will Surprise You
JK Rowling is still earning huge money from the Harry Potter world, many years after the books first came out. New financial records show just how profitable her digital business remains.
According to annual accounts filed by her company Pottermore Ltd, the firm made £54.3 million in revenue in the year ending in March.
That figure is higher than the £48.8 million made the year before. Pottermore Ltd is the company that handles sales of Harry Potter e-books and audiobooks, and the accounts are the main source of this information.
Most of the money came from outside the UK. More than £41 million was earned from the Americas, while around £12 million came from the UK and Europe.
The company’s profits also jumped. Pre-tax profit reached £17.2 million, compared to £11.4 million the previous year. From that amount, £11.6 million was paid out in dividends. This adds to Rowling’s already massive fortune, which is estimated to be at least £945 million from books, films, and theme parks linked to Harry Potter.
Accountants described what the company does in the financial report. They said Pottermore Ltd is “the global digital audiobook and eBook publisher of J.K. Rowling’s multi-million bestselling Harry Potter series and associated titles.”
They added that “Pottermore promotes accessibility, creativity, and innovation as it brings these beloved stories to life for each generation of readers and listeners to discover.”
The report explained that the company manages digital versions of the original Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the Fantastic Beasts screenplays, and the Hogwarts Library books. It also releases digital non-fiction tied to the Harry Potter universe.
Digital platforms linked to Harry Potter are run through Wizarding World Digital LLC, which is a joint project between Pottermore Inc and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The accountants also noted that the past year was a record one for the company. They said, “Pottermore Ltd has had a new record year, continuing to benefit from making its content available through a global distribution network.” That network includes major platforms like Amazon, Apple, Audible, Google, Spotify, and library services such as Overdrive and Hoopla.
The company also expanded into new markets. It released e-books and audiobooks of From the Wizarding Archive in five languages. Hogwarts Library Books were added in four more languages, and the first-ever Harry Potter audiobook in Greek was launched through a partnership with JukeBooks.
Another big move was the release of Stephen Fry’s audiobook versions in the United States for the first time. These joined the already popular Jim Dale versions, which continue to sell well.
This latest financial update makes it clear that Harry Potter is still a major money-maker in the digital world. Even without new main series books, readers and listeners around the globe are still buying into the magic.
