The movie, directed and co-written by Michael Sarnoski, reimagines the Robin Hood story with a grittier tone. In this version, Robin Hood faces the consequences of his past life of crime and murder while being cared for by a mysterious woman after sustaining critical injuries.

Jackman leads a strong cast that includes Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe. The ensemble adds depth to this new take on the classic legend, bringing a mix of star power and dramatic talent to the project.

The film’s development began in May 2024, when Sarnoski announced he would direct and co-write this darker version of Robin Hood, with Jackman and Comer attached to star. Shortly afterward, A24 secured U.S. distribution rights in a competitive bidding process at the Marché du Film. By February, Skarsgård, Bartlett, and Jupe had joined the cast. Filming took place in Northern Ireland from early February and wrapped by late March.

While details about the release date are still limited, the first image shared by Entertainment Weekly has already generated excitement among fans. The dark, intense look suggests a fresh take on Robin Hood, emphasizing suspense and thriller elements rather than traditional adventure.

This film seems set to offer a new perspective on a familiar story. With Michael Sarnoski’s vision and Hugh Jackman’s commanding presence, it could be one of the most intriguing adaptations of Robin Hood in recent years.
