Hugh Jackman Goes Dark as Robin Hood in First Trailer for ‘The Death of Robin Hood’
Hugh Jackman is stepping into the legendary boots of Robin Hood in a bold new way. The first trailer for The Death of Robin Hood has just been released, giving fans a glimpse of a darker, more dangerous version of the classic outlaw.
The film is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who previously directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. According to sources, the movie draws inspiration from the 17th-century ballad Robin Hood’s Death, one of the earliest tales of the hero.

Unlike previous adaptations, this story doesn’t frame Robin Hood as a straightforward hero. Jackman’s character looks older and weathered, reminiscent of his “Old Man Logan” performance.
The trailer focuses on Robin being approached by a mysterious woman, played by Jodie Comer, who warns him that a young girl he cares about, Little Margaret (Faith Delaney), might be in danger. This prompts Robin to confront his violent past once again, hinting at a story about redemption, responsibility, and returning to action despite age.
Fans also catch quick glimpses of Bill Skarsgård as Little John, while Noah Jupe and Murray Bartlett may appear in smaller roles.
The trailer mixes moments of brutal combat with mysterious, suspenseful scenes, leaving audiences guessing about what parts are flashbacks and what will unfold in the story. Sarnoski seems to be exploring themes similar to Pig, focusing on an older man pulled back into a life he tried to leave behind.
While the trailer keeps many details under wraps, it’s clear that this Robin Hood will be unlike any version we’ve seen before. The film also promises visually striking action and a darker, more introspective take on the legend. A24 is set to release the film later this year, and fans are already buzzing about this fresh, gritty approach to a classic tale.
