Important ‘Doctor Strange’ Actor Sparks Rumors He Might Be Back for ‘Doomsday’
Chiwetel Ejiofor may be keeping secrets about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he just gave fans something to talk about. During a recent interview, the actor was asked directly if he would be returning as Baron Mordo in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. His answer was short, cheeky, and instantly got attention.
“We’ll see … Who wouldn’t like a chair?” Ejiofor said with a smile.
That response came from a red carpet chat with Flip Your Wig, and it immediately had Marvel fans speculating.
Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo is the Sorcerer Supreme of the Masters of the Mystic Arts and a member of the Illuminati, succeeding the role of his late friend Supreme Strange. During Scarlet Witch’s war, he met and imprisoned an alternate Doctor Strange and America Chavez at the Illuminati Headquarters, fearing the former was as dangerous as Supreme Strange was.
While judging Strange in a trial with his teammates, Scarlet Witch attacked and massacred the Illuminati, leaving Mordo as the sole survivor, who failed to stop Strange from escaping his custody.
Right now, Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed Mordo’s return, but Avengers: Doomsday is already being talked about as a huge multiverse movie, and characters like Mordo could easily fit into that world. After all, he’s a powerful sorcerer who knows a lot about bending reality, and he’s got unfinished business with Doctor Strange.
Whether Ejiofor is just joking or carefully dodging spoilers, his playful answer has sparked excitement. The fact that he didn’t say “no” means fans are now more hopeful than ever that Baron Mordo isn’t done just yet.
Doomsday will bring back a lot of familiar faces from past Marvel films, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Pedro Pascal, and even Robert Downey Jr. This time, Downey isn’t playing Iron Man, he’s playing the villain, Doctor Doom.
The movie shows the Avengers teaming up with the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the New Avengers to stop Doctor Doom.
The Russo brothers, who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, are back to direct this one. Stephen McFeely, one of the writers from earlier Avengers films, is also back. All of this was officially announced in July 2024.
Filming started in April 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England. Some scenes are also being filmed in Bahrain.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters in the U.S. on December 18, 2026. It’s part of Marvel’s Phase Six. A sequel, Secret Wars, is already planned for December 17, 2027.
