Into the Wild: Netflix Drops Trailer for Chilling Murder Mystery ‘Untamed’ Set in Yosemite
Netflix is taking viewers deep into the wild with its new murder mystery series Untamed, and the first trailer just dropped. The show stars Eric Bana and Sam Neill, and it’s set to premiere on July 17, 2025.
The series follows Kyle Turner, played by Bana, who is a special agent with the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch. His job? Catching a killer who knows Yosemite National Park like the back of their hand. But the killer isn’t the only danger, Kyle’s past, and the secrets buried in the park, could be just as deadly.
Untamed is a six-episode limited series created by Mark L. Smith, known for The Revenant and American Primeval, and Elle Smith, who wrote The Marsh King’s Daughter. In an interview with Tudum, Mark Smith explained the show’s darker tone, saying, “Everyone thinks of Yosemite as this beautiful place with all the vistas and all the scenery, but we were trying to touch on the dangers that are just beyond that.”
He added, “I love stripping all the cheats away, stripping all the more modern tools that people can use. It really gets down to the character and what they can find within themselves.”
In the show, Turner’s investigation unfolds alongside Paul Souter, the long-time Yosemite chief ranger played by Sam Neill. The two are close friends, and Souter has spent most of his life in the park, both managing it and navigating the complex politics that come with it.
Rosemarie DeWitt plays Jill Bodwin, Turner’s ex-wife. She used to be a teacher and park counselor and has since remarried, but she and Turner still share a deep connection that ties back to their past.
Lily Santiago joins the cast as Naya Vasquez, a young cop from Los Angeles who recently moved to Yosemite with her son. She might be new to the wilderness, but her sharp instincts and homicide experience come in handy during the investigation.
Wilson Bethel plays Shane Maguire, a former army ranger turned wildlife officer. He prefers being alone in the wild, where he can live by his own rules, far from the chaos of city life.
Filming started in June 2024 in Vancouver, British Columbia, with some scenes shot in Chip Kerr Park. According to Netflix, the show was produced by John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television, Escape Artists, Bee Holder Productions, and Syndicate Entertainment. Eric Bana is not just starring, he’s also one of the executive producers.
If the trailer is anything to go by, Untamed is going to be intense, emotional, and full of suspense. Yosemite might look peaceful, but this story promises to dig into the darker side of nature, and human nature too.
