Is Brandon Sklenar the Next Batman? Actor Breaks Silence
Brandon Sklenar has finally addressed the rumors that he might be playing Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe. With the role still unconfirmed, fans have been speculating heavily, and many believe Sklenar has already been chosen for the iconic part.
During a recent appearance on the Today Show, Sklenar responded to the speculation. He said, “I mean that would be a dream, wouldn’t it? I was working in Spain and as I walked down the street someone called ‘Batman!’ It’s wild.”
Fans have also pointed to Gunn praising Sklenar’s performance in 1923 on the official Peacemaker after-show podcast as a possible hint.
Meanwhile, Sklenar has been actively training and appears to be in much better shape than before. His Instagram posts show that he is working on building a stronger physique, which many see as preparation for a superhero role.
Age may also play a factor in Gunn’s casting. When casting David Corenswet as Superman, Gunn made it clear he wanted the characters’ ages to match the comics. This suggests that Batman would be slightly older than Superman, who is in his early thirties. Sklenar, who turned 35 this year, fits that age range and also has the physical look that fans expect from the Caped Crusader.
Batman is set to debut in the DCU in The Brave and the Bold, a film that will explore the Bat-Family and introduce Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son, as Robin. Gunn described the movie as a “strange father and son story” focused on Batman and Robin.
Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran have confirmed that there will only be one Batman in the DCU. This version will be separate from Ben Affleck’s DCEU Batman and Matt Reeves’s The Batman, which will continue under the Elseworlds label.
Andy Muschietti was initially hired to direct The Brave and the Bold in June 2023, with his sister Barbara co-producing alongside Gunn and Safran. However, the film’s development was postponed to December 2024 to avoid conflicting with The Batman: Part II. A writer is already working on the script with Gunn, and Safran will review it once it is ready.
