The confusion makes sense once you look at how this story has unfolded. What started as a seemingly solid report has turned into a genuine game of he said, they said, and the most recent Comic-Con appearance only added fuel to the fire.

Ryan Reynolds’ Comic-Con Appearance Reignited the Debate
Fast forward to San Diego Comic-Con 2026, and Reynolds delivered one of the weekend’s most talked about moments without saying a single word about his own casting status. Reynolds appeared among the Hall H crowd dressed in a new gray Deadpool suit, one that has never appeared on screen but is recognizable from the X-Force comics. He introduced himself as Ricky and joked that he was cosplaying hard before turning his attention to the cast on stage.
The bit itself was classic Deadpool chaos. Ricky’s first question went to Paul Rudd, asking where Thor was and why he was crying, a direct callback to a scene from ‘Deadpool And Wolverine.’ Rudd fired back by joking that Thor was probably just a Wrexham fan, poking fun at the football club Reynolds co-owns in real life.
Reynolds kept pushing, and the exchange got pointed fast. Another account goes further, noting that despite Reynolds crashing the panel in full costume, Deadpool was not actually confirmed for the film, with Reynolds playing the moment for laughs by asking about last minute additions.
Even outlets covering the same red carpet moment are hedging their language. One report describes Reynolds showing up in a new Deadpool costume among the audience, adding that it doesn’t look like he’ll actually be appearing in the film despite ongoing rumors to that effect. That is about as mixed a signal as Marvel coverage gets.
Where the Speculation Stands Right Now
