Is Vision Returning For Avengers Doomsday? Paul Bettany Finally Addresses The Rumors
Marvel fans have spent years wondering what happened to Paul Bettany’s synthezoid after ‘WandaVision’ left his story hanging in the air, and now that ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ is barreling toward its December release, the question has only gotten louder. With a cast list already stuffed to the brim with heroes from three different cinematic universes, it makes sense that people are scanning every corner of the roster looking for Vision.
So far, the official answer is complicated. Bettany has not been named as part of the confirmed ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ lineup, but that has not stopped him from teasing his own comeback in a way that has kept the fandom buzzing for months.
Vision’s MCU Return Still Hangs in the Balance
The character’s on screen death in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was followed by a strange kind of resurrection in ‘WandaVision,’ where Vision was rebuilt as a blank white version of himself with no memories of Wanda Maximoff. That 2021 Disney Plus series ended with Vision resurrected twice, once inside Wanda’s grief driven Hex and once as a real version of himself brought back using the Scarlet Witch. That unresolved ending is exactly why fans have been so eager for updates.

Bettany has not been officially named as a cast member of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which has led plenty of outlets and fans to assume his return, if it happens, is being saved for later. Still, the actor has been careful not to rule anything out completely, and his own comments have only added fuel to the speculation fire.
What Paul Bettany Has Actually Said About ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Speaking with a British publication late last year, Bettany revealed he had some Avengers duties lined up for the following year, joking that it was not as though he was turning down major film directors to go make Marvel movies. That comment alone was enough to send fan theories into overdrive.
At the time that story published, the actor had not been announced as part of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cast, even though the film had already wrapped principal photography. Since the Russo brothers are also set to direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ many assumed Bettany’s comments pointed toward that later film instead.
More recently, on a popular entertainment podcast, the host pressed Bettany directly on whether Vision would show up in either ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ The actor gave a fairly vague answer, saying he thinks so, while acknowledging that plans at Marvel can change at any moment. As of that conversation, Vision had still not been formally confirmed for either upcoming feature.
Reshoots and Secrecy Keep the Door Open
One detail that has kept hope alive among fans is the timing of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ reshoots. Reports have noted that the film is currently undergoing reshoots, which means Marvel could still theoretically decide to work Vision or other members of the Maximoff family into the final cut even after the main shoot wrapped. That kind of late addition would not be unprecedented for a Marvel blockbuster of this scale.
Marvel Studios has also proven repeatedly with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ that it likes to hold cards close to the chest before big reveals. More than two dozen actors have already been officially announced for the film, and Kevin Feige himself teased that additional reveals were still coming even after the record breaking cast announcement livestream. That livestream itself became a genuine cultural moment.
Between the Avengers regulars, the Fantastic Four cast, and a surprise wave of original ‘X-Men’ stars, the film is shaping up to be one of the most stacked superhero movies ever assembled.
Where Vision Fits Into the Bigger Picture
Whatever happens on the big screen, fans will not have to wait long to check in on the character. Vision is confirmed to return in the Disney Plus series ‘VisionQuest,’ which was teased during a Disney presentation and is set to premiere on October 14, 2026, just two months before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters. The series marks the third and final installment in what has become something of a ‘WandaVision’ trilogy for the character.
That timing has led to plenty of fan theories about ‘VisionQuest’ potentially setting up a surprise appearance in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ itself. Some observers have pointed out it is entirely possible the show leads directly into the December film, though nothing has been confirmed on that front. What is clear is that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ already has a massive cast pulling from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, and it is very likely fans still do not know everyone who will ultimately appear.
For now, Bettany’s own words remain the closest thing to a hint that Marvel fans have. Whether Vision touches down in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ this December or waits for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in 2027, one thing is certain, the character’s story is far from finished. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arriving December 18, 2026 and ‘Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027, there is still plenty of time for Marvel to surprise everyone.
So which movie do you think will finally bring Vision back into the fold, and would you rather see him reunite with Wanda’s legacy in ‘Doomsday’ or save that emotional reunion for the bigger showdown in ‘Secret Wars’?
