IT: Welcome to Derry is a supernatural horror series inspired by Stephen King’s 1986 novel It. It acts as a prequel to the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019).
The show was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, who all worked on the movies. The cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Clara Stack, Amanda Christine, and Mikkal Karim-Fidler. Bill Skarsgård returns as Pennywise and also serves as an executive producer.
According to reports, development for the series began in March 2022. By November of that year, a production commitment was in place, and Jason Fuchs, along with Brad Kane, were hired as showrunners.
The series was officially greenlit in February 2023, with Andy Muschietti set to direct multiple episodes, including the pilot. Casting began in April 2024, and Skarsgård was confirmed for the role of Pennywise in May 2024. Filming started in May 2023 but was briefly paused in July due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, resuming to finish in August 2024.
The series premiered on October 26, and has received generally positive reviews from critics. The story is set in 1962, when a family moves to Derry, Maine, just as a young boy goes missing. Their arrival triggers a series of terrifying events in the town.
In the trailer, fans get a closer look at the horrors Pennywise will unleash and the challenges the town faces as the season moves toward its climax. The series continues to expand the terrifying mythology of Derry, keeping audiences on edge.
