The second season of Peacemaker is already making headlines, and not just because it continues the story of Chris Smith after the DCU film Superman (2025). According to an interview with James Gunn on the Rainn Wilson Show, one scene in particular has people talking: a full-on o**** in the first episode.

Rainn Wilson asked Gunn how HBO even allowed the frequent use of the word “c***” and such a wild scene. Gunn explained, “HBO, they’ve always kind of let us do what we wanted. Remember, HBO has had a lot of nudity in their shows. They’re not unknown to nudity.”

Wilson pointed out that this wasn’t just any o***—it was a dance o****, with lots of movement and, as Gunn put it, “some little p***** dancing around. Listen, we wanted to make it real.” Gunn said the scene was meant to give viewers a clear warning: “Hey, this is a wild ride that you’re in for the whole season and this is the kind of craziness you’re going to see… it is definitely not for children.”

Gunn also addressed some criticism from “old-school” people about intimacy coordinators on set. He called the coordinator “my best friend for the days that we were shooting that or*y because it really allowed us to just do whatever we wanted and be really comfortable with it and make sure that everyone was on the same page.” He praised the extras in the scene, joking about one guy eating a sandwich in the middle of the o****, saying, “Those guys are great.”

Filming took place in Atlanta while Gunn was also shooting Superman. He noted that the second season was supposed to be set in the Pacific Northwest, but they chose Atlanta for convenience.

Peacemaker Season 2 is produced by DC Studios with James Gunn as showrunner. It premieres on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, and includes eight episodes. Critics have responded positively, saying it’s better than the first season and praising John Cena along with the rest of the cast.

The o**** scene and Gunn’s praise for intimacy coordinators highlight just how far the show is willing to go to push boundaries while keeping the cast safe and comfortable.
