James Gunn Hints ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Will Tie Into ‘Superman’ Sequel
James Gunn has teased that Peacemaker Season 2 will play a key role in the future of the DC Universe and tie directly into the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.
Gunn has been working on the follow-up to Superman, describing it as the next story in the “Superman Saga.” He confirmed that the new film, titled Man of Tomorrow, is set to release on July 9, 2027, with actors Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet expected to return, alongside Nicholas Hoult.
On social media, Gunn shared an image of John Cena holding his “body double” and wrote, “Watch the Man of Tomorrow Prequel AKA #Peacemaker Season 2, airing a new episode tonight on @HBOMax at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST.”
Gunn has previously emphasized that Peacemaker is crucial to the DCU’s future. “It’s a big part, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker; it should be noted that this is for adults, not for children, but Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it’s incredibly important,” he said.
He also teased that fans will see both returning and new characters this season. “Lots of guest stars coming up, lots of characters that are showing up that we’ve already met in Superman. I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker, so I’m so excited for people to see it,” Gunn added.
John Cena, who stars in Peacemaker, also spoke about the show’s significance in connecting the DC Universe.
“This season is about furthering the narrative. Instead of standalone properties, all of the DCU is now connected, as you saw Peacemaker show up in Superman. I think what you see in season two is just a forward of that narrative. That whole DCU through line—it takes the 11th Street Kids through their next adventure, but it also has a lot to do with the DCU going forward,” Cena said.
