The season finale of Peacemaker Season 2, titled Full Nelson, has been released, and writer-director James Gunn is opening up about the making of the episode, including an unexpected idea that almost happened.

During a virtual press conference earlier this week, which several reporters attended, Gunn revealed that he once talked to Ryan Reynolds about having Deadpool appear in the show.

The discussion came up when Gunn was asked if there were any universes or cameos he wanted to include in the finale but couldn’t.

Gunn explained that he wanted to feature a brief shot of Deadpool when Peacemaker’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber opened to show different dimensions.

He laughed as he shared the story, saying, “Yeah, I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room. And I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it, but I think we would’ve had to go through some pretty big hoops to do that! He wanted to do it.”

The idea, while fun, would’ve been a legal and creative challenge. Deadpool belongs to Marvel, while Peacemaker is part of DC’s universe. Bringing the two worlds together would mean linking the DCU and the MCU, something that has never officially happened.

Even though the Marvel multiverse technically includes characters from Fox’s old X-Men movies, a crossover with DC would require massive approvals from both studios.

Gunn joked about how the reveal might take over the conversation around the episode, saying, “That’s all anybody’s going to talk about now. Is f**ing Deadpool in the other room? I should have never said it!”

While the cameo didn’t happen, it’s still fun to imagine what it could’ve looked like, Deadpool breaking the fourth wall in the DCU would have been a moment fans would never forget.

Gunn’s sense of humor makes it easy to see why he considered a Deadpool cameo, even if it was just for fun. It shows how much he enjoys playing with fan expectations and comic book worlds.

A DC and Marvel crossover might sound impossible now, but with the way multiverses are expanding, who knows what could happen in the future. Would you like to see Deadpool and Peacemaker share the screen someday? Let us know what you think in the comments.
