James Gunn Reveals How Many Films Fans Can Expect in the New Superman Saga
James Gunn is thinking about the future of Superman in the new DC Universe. After the big success of the 2025 Superman movie, the director has confirmed that a sequel is coming, and it looks like the story will be bigger than just one hero.
The first film introduced a fresh take on the Man of Steel. David Corenswet played Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan was Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult took on the role of Lex Luthor. The story showed Superman stopping a worldwide threat from Luthor, but his actions made people question whether he could be trusted.
Fans and critics loved the mix of classic Superman themes with a modern twist, making the movie a hit both at the box office and with audiences.
In an interview Gunn shared a hint about how many films he plans for Superman. He said, “What is the long-term story I’m telling here? What is the story that I’m gonna tell about Superman over four movies?” This makes it clear that Gunn is planning a series of four Superman films as part of the bigger DC Universe.

Gunn also talked about the sequel, saying that the story is already finished. He hinted that it won’t just be about Superman alone. “It’s within the group of characters we’ve already met, and Superman’s an important element of it. So, that’s what I’ll say, but like that movie, that treatment is done,” he explained.
This suggests the next movie will be more of a team-up style story, possibly including characters like Supergirl, who has her own movie planned next year.
Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav has also mentioned that the next film will be part of a larger “Super-Family” series. Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe include connecting Superman with other heroes and big names, like members of the Justice League. The sequel could be an important step in tying all these characters together.
Even though no official details about the plot or additional characters have been confirmed yet, the fact that the sequel’s treatment is done shows that things are moving fast. Fans can expect not just one or two, but a full four-movie arc for Superman in the new DC Universe.
