James Gunn Says Adria Arjona Would Be “A Great Wonder Woman”
When it comes to the DCU, only “one part” of the Trinity is currently confirmed, Superman, since Batman and Wonder Woman haven’t even been cast yet.
Gal Gadot previously played Wonder Woman in the DCEU, starring in the 2017 film. That movie was a huge success, earning $821.8 million at the box office.
So, it was surprising when Wonder Woman 1984 turned out to be both a critical and box office disappointment, bringing in just $169.6 million. However, it’s important to remember that the pandemic heavily affected its performance.
Gadot was expected to appear in another Wonder Woman project, but like Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck when the DCEU was scrapped, she was eventually let go.
A few weeks ago, James Gunn confirmed that Wonder Woman hasn’t been cast yet. But of course, that hasn’t stopped fans from making their own picks. One name that often comes up is Adria Arjona, who has both the talent and the look to pull off the role.
Adria Arjona Torres has appeared in TV shows like Emerald City (2017), Good Omens (2019) as Anathema Device, and Andor (2022–2025) as Bix Caleen.
She’s also starred in movies such as Father of the Bride (2022), Hit Man (2023), and Blink Twice (2024). In addition, she had smaller roles in films like Pacific Rim Uprising (2018), Life of the Party (2018), Triple Frontier (2019), 6 Underground (2019), and Morbius (2022).
Recently, James Gunn was asked about Adria Arjona and why he follows her on social media.
Gunn explained that he thinks Adria would make a great Wonder Woman, but that’s not the main reason he follows her. He said he started following her years ago after she acted in a movie he made seven years ago. So, his decision to follow her wasn’t just based on who she is now, but because he has respected her work for a long time.
“She was in a movie that I made seven years ago. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.”
We have no idea when Wonder Woman will debut in the DCU, but we know that at least one related project is planned for development. During the grand reveal of the DCU Peter Safran and James Gunn announced Paradise Lost.
This series is a political drama about the fights for power and plans on the all-women island of Themyscira before Wonder Woman was born.
In December 2022, Patty Jenkins said she would not make a sequel to Wonder Woman or Wonder Woman 1984. James Gunn and Peter Safran told her that the sequel did not fit with their new plans. They said it’s like Game of Thrones. The title is close to a 2001 comic story called Paradise Island Lost, about a civil war on Themyscira.
James Gunn also recently confirmed that Wonder Woman movie is being made, but did not share any details.
