James Gunn Teases Secret DC Project Is About To Head Into Production
James Gunn has revealed that a new, unannounced DC project is about to enter production. The DC Studios co-CEO shared the news while discussing his plans for the DC Universe, which is currently being built around the upcoming Superman reboot and several new shows.
Speaking on Chad Hardwick’s podcast I Think You’re Overthinking It, Gunn confirmed that alongside his work on Superman and the long-awaited The Batman Part II, another series is already lined up. “We have another TV show, which nobody knows about, which is going next,” Gunn said, keeping details under wraps.
This mystery project is not part of the previously announced lineup of DCU shows. So far, the first chapter of the DCU, titled Gods and Monsters, includes Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold. All of these are still in development, with Lanterns set to arrive in 2026.
A couple of months ago Gunn also explained why this secret project wasn’t included when he first unveiled the DCU slate. “There was one thing that I knew about from the very beginning, that when I pitched to David Zaslav what the DCU would be, I pitched to him, but we did not announce in that first meeting because I felt like it was too easy to rip off by another company,” he said.
This adds to DC’s growing slate of shows after the animated Creature Commandos, which has already received positive attention for its more mature approach. Gunn has hinted before that fans should expect more adult-oriented projects, suggesting the hidden series could follow that path as well.
For now, the project remains a mystery, but Gunn’s comments confirm that DC is moving faster than expected in expanding its new universe.
