James Gunn Teases What’s Next for Peacemaker: Could Season 3 Happen?
The second season of Peacemaker has come to an end, leaving fans wondering what’s next for John Cena’s chaotic antihero and his team.
The show returned to HBO Max after more than three years, picking up threads from the first season while integrating itself into James Gunn’s newly structured DC Universe.
While Christopher Smith, a.k.a. Peacemaker, remains the center of the story, the series is really about his group, the 11th Street Kids.
Fans eager for a third season should know that HBO Max has not officially renewed the show. However, James Gunn has teased that the story isn’t over. In an interview with Deadline, Gunn said the characters’ next adventures might not necessarily happen as part of another Peacemaker season.
He also spoke on Peacemaker: The Official Podcast during season two, episode eight, saying, “Peacemaker will be back. As for this TV show, we’ll see exactly what form. We have plans. You’ll see all these characters in the future of the DCU in not too long.”
Fans may also see some familiar faces in upcoming DC projects. When Gunn and Peter Safran first relaunched the DC Universe under their “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” plan, they announced a series focused on Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.
Gunn recently confirmed to People that the Waller series is still in development, noting that production has been slower than expected, but it is still moving forward.
While a third season of Peacemaker isn’t guaranteed, it’s clear that Gunn has bigger plans for the characters. The team will return in some form, whether in a new season, a spin-off, or another project within the DC Universe.
