Fans finally got their first look at Jason Momoa as the antihero Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie. The sneak peek came from DC Studios co-chief James Gunn, who shared a short video on Instagram showing Momoa in character.

In the clip, Momoa is on set with Milly Alcock, who plays Kara Zor-El, the titular Supergirl. Walking out of his trailer with a cigar in his mouth, Momoa was asked how it feels to play Lobo. He grinned and said simply, Finally.

The video also shows Momoa in full Lobo costume, moving through several action shots set to Blondie’s song Call Me, which also plays in the official teaser for the film. The montage gives fans a sense of Lobo’s chaotic and rebellious energy, creating a lot of buzz about Momoa’s first time playing the character.

Reactions online have been mixed. Some fans criticized the look, saying it feels too safe or underwhelming. One user wrote, Literally looks like Knowhere, the location from GotG. Gunn needs to change up his ideas a bit better because I get what other people are saying now.

Another commented, He’s perfect for the part but somehow it still looks silly & underwhelming. I have the feeling that another DCU reboot will be coming sooner than anyone is currently planning. Some were more positive, saying, They couldn’t have picked a better actor to play Lobo. All Jason Momoa has to do is wear white make-up and his leather biker outfit and he’s good to go.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. The movie is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe and follows 2025’s Superman, which stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Other cast members include Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills and Eve Ridley as Ruthye, a young alien who joins Kara on her journey. The movie is set to hit theaters on June 26.

Outside of Lobo, Momoa has been busy with several projects. He is promoting his comedy The Wrecking Crew, which comes to Prime Video on January 28, and reunites him with Dave Bautista. Later this year, he will appear in the road comedy Animal Friends, play Blanka in the new Street Fighter movie, and return as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part Three in December. He also appeared in the recently released A Minecraft Movie as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison.

Fans are divided on Momoa’s Lobo. Some think he is the perfect choice, while others feel the casting is too safe for such an iconic antihero. The Instagram clip and the teaser have sparked lively discussion about whether Momoa’s white makeup and cigar look truly captures Lobo’s wild persona.

What do you think of Jason Momoa as Lobo? Does he fit the role or is it a safe pick for DC’s new universe? Share your thoughts in the comments.
