Jennifer Aniston Says Talks ‘Friends’ Revival Without Matthew Perry
Jennifer Aniston has opened up about the possibility of revisiting her iconic role as Rachel Green from the hit TV show Friends.
The actress, who played Rachel for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, says she cannot imagine a reboot or sequel without her late co-star Matthew Perry.
“It would be literally, physically impossible,” Aniston told Harper’s Bazaar U.K., reflecting on the loss of Perry, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 54. Perry’s death was attributed to the “acute effects of ketamine,” with drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine contributing, according to reports.
Aniston spoke candidly about Perry’s struggles, saying, “It’s heartbreaking that he had so many demons. But boy, for someone who had that much inner turmoil, he sure got to laugh a lot, and that was everything to him.”
The Friends cast—also including Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc, was famously close. Professionally, they were united in negotiating equal, high-figure salaries, and Aniston recalls the camaraderie fondly.
“It completely formed who I was. It was pure joy,” she said. “I looked forward to it every day. I couldn’t wait to get to work. I couldn’t wait to see those people. I couldn’t wait to read the scripts — we’d shoot the show every Friday night, and right after we wrapped, we’d find the new script for Monday morning in our dressing room. I was just as excited to find out what was going to happen as I’m sure the audience was.”
Aniston’s comments highlight not only the bond between the cast members but also the deep impact Friends had on her personally and professionally. While fans have long speculated about a potential reboot, Aniston makes it clear that any return without Perry would not feel right.
Aniston’s perspective is completely understandable. Friends was more than just a show; it was a tight-knit group of actors whose chemistry made the series so special. A reboot without Perry would be missing an essential part of what made the show iconic. What do you think about a Friends revival without Matthew Perry? Share your thoughts in the comments.
