Jennifer Lawrence Names This Celeb as Her Toughest Co-Star to Work With
Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about her experience working with co-stars, and one name stood out as particularly challenging, but not for the reason fans might think. Speaking about her time on the dark comedy Don’t Look Up, the actress revealed that Jonah Hill was the hardest co-star to work with during filming.
Don’t Look Up, released on Netflix in 2021, follows two astronomers who discover a comet headed toward Earth, only to find that nobody takes the threat seriously.
The film blends disaster movie tension with zany comedy and stars Lawrence alongside Meryl Streep and Timothée Chalamet. Surprisingly, it wasn’t any of the big names that made filming difficult for Lawrence, but Hill, who played Jason Orlean, the president’s son and Chief of Staff.
Lawrence told Vanity Fair in 2023, “It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing. We one time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me. It was amazing.”
She explained that many of Hill’s lines were improvised, and his comedic skill made it tough to stay serious during scenes. “I mean, he’s a master, he’s a comedic master. I mean we all did some [improv] just not as well as Jonah,” Lawrence added.
The actress also noted that while the whole cast occasionally improvised, Hill and Streep were the only ones who could truly pull it off without breaking the scene. Despite the challenge, Lawrence described the experience as fun and praised the chemistry she shared with Hill during filming.
In my view, it’s fascinating to hear Lawrence highlight the lighter side of on-set challenges. Improvisation can bring fresh energy to a film, but it also tests an actor’s focus and patience. It sounds like Lawrence and Hill turned what could have been a difficult situation into an enjoyable collaboration.
