Jennifer Lawrence Reveals Why She Gave Up Her Dog After Having Children
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken openly about how becoming a mother changed the way she sees life, including her role as a dog owner.
The actress recently explained why she and her husband, art dealer Cooke Maroney, decided to rehome their dog after welcoming children. Lawrence shared the update during a public Q&A event in New York while promoting her film Die My Love. A video from the event was later shared on Instagram.
Lawrence said her dog, Princess Pippi Longstocking, is safe and living with her parents. “She’s alive, she’s with my parents,” she told the audience. She explained that the dog struggled with life in New York City, even though she chose an apartment close to a park to make things easier.
Things changed even more after Lawrence became a mother. She shares two sons with Maroney, including a three-year-old and a second baby born in 2024. According to the actress, having kids made her see dogs very differently. “After I had a kid, dogs became so scary,” she said.
Lawrence admitted she now reacts with fear when her child gets close to dogs. She also shared that a dog once bit her son, which deeply affected her. “I just see them as a threat,” she said, adding that the incident made her feel extremely protective.
While dogs now make her nervous, Lawrence said she still loves cats. She talked fondly about her own cat, Fred, and joked about their difficult personalities. “They are a–holes,” she said, explaining that their behavior is part of what makes them funny to her.
The actress has spoken many times about how motherhood has reshaped her life. At the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, she said being a parent affects every decision she makes. “Having children changes everything,” she said, calling the experience both exhausting and wonderful.
Lawrence also shared that becoming a mom has changed her as an actress. She said her emotions feel stronger and closer to the surface, which has affected her creative work in a positive way.
