Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about shows in the MCU lineup.

After a strong debut on Disney+ earlier this year, fans are eagerly awaiting what’s next for Matt Murdock and his gritty corner of New York.

Now, writer and producer Jesse Wigutow is teasing that the upcoming third season will push the series in an entirely new direction.

The show premiered its first two episodes on March 4, as part of Marvel’s Phase Five. The first season featured nine episodes and earned positive reviews from critics who praised its darker tone and character, driven storytelling.

The second season, set to arrive in March 2026 with eight episodes, promises to go even bigger. According to Wigutow, it’s a “very big portrait” of New York—filled with crime, politics, and the rise of Mayor Wilson Fisk.

“It’s not a whole lot I can say, obviously, in terms of specifics, but it is a very big portrait that we’re telling, a big New York City story, crime, politics,” Wigutow told Collider. “Obviously, we have Mayor Fisk and all of the palace intrigue around him inside City Hall. All of it, I think, is really awesome.”

Wigutow added that the second season builds toward an intense final showdown between Murdock and Fisk. “We told this really big story, it got very wide, and then we kind of drive it in the finale to really what matters most… these two characters and the conflict that they’re in,” he said. “How deeply they hate each other, and how deeply they need each other.”

Fans of the Netflix-era Daredevil have plenty to look forward to as well. The upcoming season is bringing back familiar faces like Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Krysten Ritter will also return as Jessica Jones, sparking hopes that more of Marvel’s Defenders, like Iron Fist and Luke Cage, might make appearances.

Marvel Studios has already confirmed that a special Punisher episode, conceived during the first season’s production, will debut sometime in 2026 under the “Marvel Studios Special Presentations” banner.

Looking beyond that, Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is officially in development and expected to premiere in March 2027 as part of Phase Six. Though Charlie Cox once referred to Season 2 as the show’s “final season,” Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum quickly clarified that Season 3 is moving forward.

Wigutow hinted that this next chapter will take the story in a bold new direction: “It is a continuation, but it is a new direction, and it is leaving a lot of what was built in [Seasons] 1 and 2 behind.”

While the writers’ room for Season 3 hasn’t started yet, Wigutow confirmed that work will begin soon. “We’re reconvening in the next week or two as a creative trust in a writers’ room,” he said.

It sounds like Daredevil: Born Again is evolving fast, and that’s exciting. The idea of refocusing on Murdock and Fisk while opening the door to new stories could give the series fresh life. But it also risks losing the tone and grit that made fans love the first two seasons.

What do you think about Daredevil: Born Again moving in a new direction? Should Marvel reinvent it, or stick closer to the darker roots of the Netflix version? Share your thoughts in the comments.
