Jessica Biel (44) Stuns in a Sleek All-Black Look During the ‘Matchbox’ Press Run as the Film Lands on Apple TV
Jessica Biel has kept a relatively low profile in recent years, so any new public appearance tends to turn heads. By one account, ‘Matchbox The Movie’ is the first project she has promoted in 2026, and likely the only one this year. Her last screen role was in the series ‘The Better Sister’ in 2025.
That makes the film’s press run a bigger moment than usual for the actress. ‘Matchbox The Movie‘ reached Apple TV on Friday, October 9, after a globe-trotting promotional tour with the full cast. The ensemble includes John Cena, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris and Arturo Castro.
A fresh pair of images from the promotion shows Biel in a sleek, minimalist black look. In one, she stands beside a sunlit window in a black halter-neck top, her hair swept into a high ponytail and a drop earring catching the light. In the other, a moodier close-up, she looks straight at the camera with her hair pulled back and soft shadows across her face.
The styling is stripped back and polished, with no bold color or heavy accessories. Instead, the clean silhouette and warm window light do the work. It is a restrained contrast to the film’s loud, high-energy premise.

The cast has been busy in the days leading up to the release. Apple Original Films hosted a special screening at Toreo Parque Central in Mexico City on October 2, with Biel, Cena, Richardson, Parris and Castro all in attendance. Three days later, the group walked the red carpet at the world premiere at AMC Lincoln Square in New York.

Biel’s husband, Justin Timberlake, was reportedly in town to support her at the New York premiere but did not pose on the carpet with her. The attention stayed on the cast, which had already appeared together at the Apple TV Press Day in February, when the first-look images were unveiled. A first trailer also debuted in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.
The film is inspired by Mattel’s iconic die-cast toy cars, though it doesn’t put talking vehicles at the center of the story. It follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are upended when Sean, an undercover CIA agent played by Cena, returns to their small town. Their former leader had been long absent, and he unwittingly drags them into a frantic international chase to save the world.
Biel plays Aimee, with Richardson as Crosby, Castro as Ted and Parris as Charmaine. The cast also includes Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Golshifteh Farahani, Danai Gurira, Daniel Bernhardt and Randeep Hooda. The film is rated PG-13 and runs 2 hours and 6 minutes, and Apple categorizes it as both action and comedy.

Sam Hargrave directs and executive produces after making his name with the ‘Extraction’ films. David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay, and the film is a collaboration between Apple Original Films, Skydance Media and Mattel Studios. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger produce for Skydance, alongside Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz and Robbie Brenner.
The Matchbox brand dates back to 1953, when inventor Jack Odell created a toy small enough to fit in a matchbox for his daughter to take to school. The brand later joined Mattel’s lineup. The film is the next Mattel release after the Oscar-winning ‘Barbie’.

Apple has not announced a conventional theatrical window for ‘Matchbox’, so the film goes straight to streaming. For Apple TV, it offers a broad, accessible title that reaches beyond the service’s prestige-drama reputation. For Biel, it is a high-profile return after a quiet stretch.
With the press tour wrapped and the film now streaming, her black-on-black photos serve as a polished final note. They also show how effectively a simple look can hold attention.
