Jessica Henwick Reveals Why She Turned Down a Return to ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3

The slow reassembly of Netflix’s old Marvel universe into the MCU has been one of the more satisfying surprises of the past couple of years, with familiar faces from Hell’s Kitchen quietly finding their way back into the fold one at a time. Every casting update feels like another piece clicking into place for a corner of the franchise fans thought had been shelved for good.

That resurrection has only accelerated as the show heads toward its third season, with several original Defenders confirmed to return and set photos already fueling speculation about who else might show up. Amid all that momentum, one especially beloved face has remained conspicuously absent, prompting fans to wonder whether she’d ever suit back up.

Jessica Henwick, who played martial artist Colleen Wing across ‘Iron Fist’ and ‘The Defenders,’ has now addressed that absence directly, revealing she did have real conversations with Marvel about returning for ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ season 3, but ultimately said no. Speaking exclusively to Inverse, Henwick explained that she and the creative team, including Dario Scardapane, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead, did have discussions about her returning, but that she isn’t appearing in this season.

Her reasoning centers on protecting the character’s story rather than any lack of interest in playing her again. “For me, her story ended with her going off into the sunset. She has the Iron Fist,” Henwick told Inverse. “I’m just not interested in bringing her back unless it’s worth sort of unpicking that happiness, because obviously she can’t be happy on a TV series. If she’s back, something’s gone wrong.”

That protectiveness comes from genuine affection for the role, not resistance to a comeback altogether. “I would absolutely love to come back, but it would just really have to be the right story,” she said in the same Inverse interview.

According to Henwick, the show’s creative team shared a similar instinct about not disrupting Colleen’s arc without good reason. The conversation reportedly circled around whether reviving her would serve the character meaningfully or simply check a nostalgia box, and both sides landed on holding off for now.

Henwick’s absence stands out given how much of the old Netflix Marvel roster is converging on the upcoming season. Finn Jones is confirmed to return as Danny Rand for the first time in eight years, joining previously confirmed returnees Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage, both of whom appeared in season 2 alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page.

Set photos have reportedly already confirmed Jones will appear as part of a storyline depicting Danny in a committed relationship, which naturally fueled fan speculation that Colleen might factor into that arc as well. For now, though, that theory remains unrealized, at least through this next chapter of the series.

Henwick has stayed candid about her openness to a future return throughout the show’s run, previously telling PolyGon during press for ‘Silo’ season 3 that she’d love to do it if the story is right, and that she’d relish putting the suit back on after nearly a decade away from the role.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3 is set to premiere on Disney+ in March 2027, leaving plenty of time for fans to keep hoping Colleen Wing eventually gets the return she deserves.
