Jimmy Kimmel Slams Fox News Over Crazy “Melania for Oscars” Claim
Jimmy Kimmel had some fun roasting Fox News over their recent praise for the documentary Melania during his February 2 monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The late-night host joked that if the film ever got an Oscar nomination, he would insist on hosting the 2027 ceremony.
“Mark my words right now, if ‘Melania’ gets nominated for an Oscar, I will host that show,” Kimmel said, with the audience cheering. “Whether they ask me to or not. I will insist on it.”
The documentary, which covers the First Lady in the 20 days before Donald Trump’s second inauguration, recently had a stronger-than-expected box office debut. Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany responded by saying the film “should be nominated for Oscars. And if she was to go, she would be the best dressed by a long shot.”
Kimmel mocked this, joking that while Melania has a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Fox News gives it a perfect score. “On Fox News it’s got a strong 100%,” he quipped.
Kimmel also took aim at the movie’s $7 million opening weekend, joking it set a record for “the biggest opening for a non-musical vanity project/brazen corporate bribe in the last 10 years.” He had previously called the documentary a “$75 million bribe” from Amazon.
The host’s comments follow his history with the Oscars. Kimmel hosted the ceremony in 2024, where he famously addressed a scathing post from President Donald Trump. Kimmel read the social media critique aloud, which called him “the worst host ever” and suggested replacing him with George Stephanopoulos.
He responded onstage with his signature humor: “Blah, blah, blah … Okay, now, see if you can guess which president just posted that on TruthSocial. Anyone? No? Well, thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching, I’m surprised you’re still — isn’t it past your jail time?”
Conan O’Brien hosted last year’s ceremony and is set to return for the 2026 Oscars. Kimmel’s playful digs at the Melania documentary continue to showcase his blend of political satire and entertainment commentary, keeping audiences laughing while commenting on Hollywood and political culture.
