Jodie Foster has spent most of her life working in film. She started as a child actor and has worked with many well-known directors over the years. Because of this, her opinion on filmmaking carries real weight.

In a past conversation with author Robert J Emery, she spoke about the director who impressed her the most. She pointed to Robert Zemeckis, who directed her in the movie Contact.

Foster explained that what stood out to her was his technical skill and creativity on set. She said, “Well, I think everybody knows, and I certainly found this out, that Bob Zemeckis is probably the greatest technician director that I’ve ever worked with, ever. He walks onto the set every single day and invents something new and people scurry around trying to figure out how to make it. He just has one of those amazing brains that he really can translate the storytelling of the movie into a very epic, very technical, very visual sense, very visual style.”

Zemeckis is known for pushing limits in filmmaking. He has worked on projects that used new visual techniques and creative effects. Over time, his films have reached a wide audience and earned strong box office success.

Foster has also worked with many other major directors during her career. She gained early attention for her role in Taxi Driver, which earned her an Oscar nomination at a young age. Since then, she has continued to take on strong roles and work with top names in the industry.

Even today, she remains active. She recently received a Golden Globe for her role in True Detective and continues to appear in new films. Her career shows both long-term success and the ability to adapt over time.

Her comments about Zemeckis highlight an important part of filmmaking. Directing is not just about guiding actors. It is also about building the visual side of a story and finding new ways to present it on screen.

It’s great to hear such a respected actress focus on the technical side of directing. It shows how much work goes on behind the scenes. It also explains why certain directors stand out more than others.
