Joe Locke Responds to Questions About Wiccan Returning in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’
Few Marvel characters have generated as much fan theorizing as Wiccan. Since Joe Locke’s mysterious “Teen” was revealed in ‘Agatha All Along’ to be Billy Maximoff, the son of Wanda Maximoff, fans have been waiting for the Young Avengers to assemble. Every cast announcement and trailer since has been scanned for a hint of his return.
That attention has only grown as the Multiverse Saga heads toward its conclusion. ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ opens on December 18, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ on December 17, 2027, and fans have been trying to work out which younger heroes will be part of the story. The question has followed Locke around for months.
Now Locke has finally addressed it directly. Asked at this year’s Zurich Film Festival whether he will return as Wiccan in both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’, he answered with cautious optimism. He said he hopes so, but admitted that nobody really knows. It’s a short, non-committal reply that doesn’t confirm or deny anything.
That’s about the most fans could expect, since Marvel keeps a tight lid on casting. It does, however, fit with how Locke has handled the topic before, hinting at excitement without revealing details. Marvel has not officially confirmed his involvement in either film, and he isn’t among the names on the published cast list for ‘Doomsday’.

The speculation has deep roots. In July 2025, composer Steven Sater said on a TikTok live that Locke had been unavailable for a trip to London because he was doing a Marvel movie. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was the only known Marvel film in production in London at the time, which led many fans to assume he was involved. Marvel never confirmed it.
Other rumors have followed. Industry scooper Lizzie Hill suggested there’s a chance Wiccan appears in ‘Doomsday’, and a September 2026 report claimed Locke will return in ‘Secret Wars’ with a chance to take center stage. A separate rumor claims the Young Avengers or Champions will appear in both films to tease a series set after ‘Secret Wars’. None of this has been officially confirmed.
There’s also leaked concept art from early 2025 that reportedly showed Wiccan alongside the Young Avengers. The Russo brothers denied that the artwork was connected to their versions of ‘Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’. So the evidence remains thin, even if the buzz is loud.
Billy is a natural fit for a story about colliding universes. He inherited his mother’s magical abilities, making him a potentially huge asset in a story full of multiversal threats. ‘Agatha All Along’ ended with Billy setting off with the ghost of Agatha Harkness to find his brother Tommy.
That thread is now continuing in ‘VisionQuest’, where Ruaridh Mollica plays Tommy Shepherd, a boy whose body carries Tommy Maximoff’s soul. A trailer for the series reportedly confirmed that Locke will reprise Billy, fueling theories that the twins will reunite. Meanwhile, the Young Avengers pieces keep falling into place, from Kate Bishop being recruited to a team of young heroes at the end of ‘The Marvels’ to the introduction of other younger heroes across Phases Four and Five.
Locke has been open about his own hopes. He has previously said that in his ideal world, Billy would become the next head of the Avengers and appear in every Marvel project, while acknowledging there are bigger things at play. He has also spoken about a long-term commitment to the MCU, so his future with the franchise seems secure even if the specifics aren’t.

For now, the best way to read Locke’s response is as a hopeful shrug. If Wiccan does appear in ‘Doomsday’, it might be a brief cameo, or it might be a setup for a larger role in ‘Secret Wars’. Either way, the character is already tied to ‘VisionQuest’, which sits right before the Avengers films on the MCU timeline.
With the premiere of ‘Doomsday’ about two months away, fans won’t have to wait much longer for answers. Until then, every trailer, poster and festival interview will be examined for clues.
Do You Think Wiccan Will Appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or Be Saved for ‘Secret Wars’?
