There’s been a lot of noise online lately about James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. Some people were worried, pointing out changes behind the scenes like shifts in the composer and editor positions. But according to those close to the production, it’s nothing out of the ordinary, and actually, everything seems to be on track.

Director James Gunn has been testing the film, making edits, and fine-tuning it, which insiders say is just part of the normal process. One person familiar with how things work at DC said, “I’m no defender of Gunn, but none of this is unusual. It’s part of honing the movie. Any movie.” Another added, “Gunn absolutely tests, he absolutely tinkers. He’s not one of those directors who can’t take suggestions.”

The movie recently wrapped a quick three-day pickup shoot in Atlanta, not a full reshoot, which is also pretty standard. As for the music, the film will include work from two composers. John Murphy started it off and gave the movie its John Williams-inspired guitar theme, and David Fleming was brought in earlier this year to help finish things up. Both of their music will appear in the final version.

According to Joe Russo, a friend of his saw the movie back in April and really liked it. Russo said, “I have a friend who saw it in April and he said it delivers. You might even say James Gunn’s Superman is… super good.”

The film is expected to be completely finished by next Friday, a full 35 days before its release on July 11. That’s usually seen as a strong sign that the studio is happy with how it turned out.

So despite the rumors and fan worries, all signs point to James Gunn’s Superman flying high and ready to land in theaters soon.
