John Stamos opened up about his past marriage to Rebecca Romijn during a recent appearance on Bill Maher’s “Club Random Podcast” on December 29.

The Full House star reflected on his time in Hollywood and didn’t shy away from addressing some personal grievances with his ex-wife.

During the podcast, Stamos recalled feeling criticized by Romijn early in their relationship. “There was a relationship that I had, that she said I was stupid, or said I wasn’t smart enough to be around her people and stuff… And I never sort of got over that,” he admitted.

He also discussed how he worked to prove himself afterward, saying, “But I was like, I’m not stupid. And I really buckled down… I didn’t grow up with politics in my family. And I learned everything from you, and I stand with you. Right where you’re at.”

Stamos has been candid in the past about feeling overshadowed during his marriage to Romijn. In his 2023 memoir, he wrote that he felt “emasculated” as her career began to take off, adding, “As I’m lifting Rebecca up, I’m losing myself… Somewhere deep inside, I start to believe it.”

He explained that while he supported her success, it often came at the expense of his own career, and he eventually felt she had outgrown him.

The actor first met Romijn in 1994 at a Victoria’s Secret fashion show. The couple got engaged on Christmas Eve 1997 and married on September 19, 1998, at the Beverly Hills Hotel. They separated in April 2004, with their divorce finalized on March 1, 2005.

Since their split, Stamos has focused on his personal and professional life. He became the national spokesperson for the Project Cuddle child-focused charity and later found love with model and actress Caitlin McHugh. The pair got engaged in 2017, married in February 2018, and welcomed their son in April 2018.

Stamos’ reflections highlight the challenges of navigating relationships while in the public eye and balancing personal ambitions with a partner’s rising career.
