‘Jurassic Park’ Star Reveals He Is Cancer-Free After 5-Year Battle
Actor Sam Neill, best known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, has announced that he is now cancer-free after a long fight with blood cancer.
The update came during an interview with Australian broadcaster 7News, where Neill spoke openly about his health journey over the past several years. He revealed that he had been living with a type of lymphoma and had been undergoing chemotherapy to manage the illness.
He explained that the treatment helped for a time, even though it was difficult. At one point, however, the therapy stopped working, and his condition became more serious.
Neill said that things reached a worrying stage when it seemed like treatment options were running out. But later, he was able to access a newer form of treatment that changes and strengthens a patient’s own blood cells. After this, his health improved significantly.
He shared the moment he received his latest scan results, saying, “I’ve just had a scan just now and there is no cancer in my body, that’s an extraordinary thing. I’m very, very excited that this can happen.”
The actor also said he feels ready to return to acting and is thinking about future film work. He told 7News, “It’s time I did another movie.”
Beyond his personal recovery, Neill is now speaking out about the treatment that helped him. He is encouraging wider access to CAR T-cell therapy in Australia, where it is still mainly available through clinical trials.
Neill first revealed his diagnosis publicly in 2023. He had been treated for angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, which was discovered after he noticed swollen glands while promoting Jurassic World Dominion in 2022. In that film, he returned alongside co-stars such as Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, as well as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
At the time of his diagnosis, Neill spoke honestly about his outlook on life, saying, “I’m not afraid to die, but it would annoy me.” He added that he wanted more time with his family and to see parts of his life continue to grow, including his grandchildren.
Now, after years of treatment and uncertainty, the actor says he is focused on recovery, family, and getting back to work.
This is a very positive update for Sam Neill fans. After such a serious health battle, hearing that he is now cancer-free is uplifting news. It also highlights how newer medical treatments can make a real difference in people’s lives. What do you think about his recovery and return to acting?
