Justin Baldoni Got Heartfelt Support Texts from The Office’s Rainn Wilson
Justin Baldoni has been dealing with growing tension behind the scenes of the film “It Ends With Us,” and new documents reveal that he leaned on a close friend during that time.
Text messages between Baldoni and actor Rainn Wilson were included in recent court filings, giving a look at how Wilson tried to support him while Baldoni’s conflict with Blake Lively was unfolding.
The messages were part of a group chat from early January 2024. The chat included Baldoni, Rainn Wilson, Travis Van Winkle, Andy Grammer, and producer Jamey Heath. Wilson checked in by asking, “Any update Brothers?”
Baldoni then explained that he had just come out of what he described as a very difficult night, which involved a heated exchange with Ryan Reynolds, Lively’s husband.
According to the texts, Baldoni said Reynolds spoke to him in a way he found belittling. He wrote that Reynolds accused him and Heath of not being the people they presented themselves to be. He also said the couple questioned whether it was appropriate for him to have a podcast.
Baldoni said hurtful words were used to describe him during the conversation, including accusations about his behavior.
In the chat, Baldoni said he struggled to respond because he was shocked by how the situation unfolded. He said, “I was then given the words of what to say, and had to apologize which I was unable to do because my brain was trying to comprehend what was happening.” He also said the only way to move forward at that moment was to acknowledge the feelings of Lively and Reynolds, even though he felt the situation was unfair.
Wilson reacted strongly to Baldoni’s story. He told him, “Oh my God. I can’t believe it. You were set up and ambushed and personally attacked. I’m stunned.” Wilson said he understood why Baldoni froze and said it was probably better that he didn’t rush into apologizing. He closed his message by encouraging him to stay focused on the work ahead.
These texts surfaced as part of Baldoni’s legal defense. The dispute between the actors became public after Blake Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department in December 2024.
In that complaint, she accused Baldoni of se**** harassment and of creating a hostile work environment. Baldoni later sued Lively and Reynolds for defamation, but that lawsuit was dismissed. More recently, Baldoni asked the court to dismiss Lively’s claims. Her case is scheduled for trial in March.
