Kate Hudson gave fans a sneak peek of Running Point season 2 with behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, captioned: “Back on the court April 23rd 🏀.” The posts got viewers buzzing about the upcoming season of the basketball comedy, which is co-created by Mindy Kaling and loosely inspired by the real-life Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss.

Hudson plays Isla Gordon, a fictional NBA nepo baby taking over the Los Angeles Waves after her brother Cam, played by Justin Theroux, gets sidelined.

Season 1 ended with Isla leading the Waves to the playoffs, only to lose in a dramatic game seven.

The finale also teased a family power struggle, as Cam returns from rehab and takes a seat in Isla’s office, hinting at tension for the next season. Hudson told Entertainment Tonight, “I had so much fun doing this. I just want to keep doing it.” Kaling added a message to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos: “We love making the show, if you want to just pick us up for five more seasons.”

Netflix announced that season 2 of Running Point will premiere on April 23. The new season promises a mix of family drama, office politics, and romance. Isla must prove herself as the Waves’ president while navigating her personal life.

The official synopsis reads: “Isla Gordon is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Los Angeles Waves, she’s the one everyone is watching. With the franchise rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam. What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his post. Every decision on and off the court counts. To survive the family power plays and board scrutiny, she’ll have to rip up last season’s game plan and come up with a whole new playbook.”

Several cast members are returning, including Hudson, Drew Tarver, Brenda Song, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, Uche Agada, and Justin Theroux. Recurring characters like Max Greenfield as Lev Levinson and Jay Ellis as Coach Jay will also return. New additions include Ray Romano as Coach Norm Stinson, Jake Picking as Tommy White, Duby Maduegbunam as Benson, Richa Moorjani as Aruna, Blake Anderson as Leroy, Aliyah Turner as Zoé Debay, and Ken Marino as Al Fleischman.

Kate Hudson shared that her brother Oliver Hudson is still eager to appear on the show someday. “He would love it,” she joked, adding that even playing a minor role like a “dead body” would make him happy.

From the Instagram sneak peek to the official Netflix announcement, it’s clear season 2 of Running Point will deliver more drama, comedy, and basketball action. Hudson’s BTS photos show her fully in character, hinting at the intensity and humor fans can expect.

Running Point season 2 is shaping up to be even more engaging than the first. The mix of sports, family rivalry, and romantic tension is a winning combination, and Hudson continues to prove she can carry a series with charisma and humor. I’m curious to see how Cam’s return shakes things up and which new cast members will steal the spotlight. What do you think about the upcoming season? Share your thoughts in the comments.
