The film, directed by Craig Brewer, tells the story of a Milwaukee-based Neil Diamond tribute act, Lightning & Thunder, and stars Hugh Jackman alongside Hudson.
Longtime family friend Kurt Russell expressed his support ahead of the Oscars, saying, “She’s up for her second Oscar. Goldie won one and was nominated twice. If Kate were to win, she and Goldie would share that, which would be a wonderful thing.” Russell added that he had adjusted his plans to attend the ceremony.
He also spoke fondly of Hudson and her mother Goldie Hawn, sharing, “She’s a great, fabulous person with a lot of talent… I feel incredibly lucky to have had the years and times that I’ve had with Goldie. We’ve shared a wonderful life.”
