Kathryn Newton Just Dropped an Update on ‘Ant-Man 4’ – And We Love It

Marvel’s post-‘Endgame’ era has been defined almost as much by uncertainty as by ambition, with several once-reliable franchises quietly pausing while the studio figures out what comes next. Few characters embody that uncertainty more than Scott Lang’s shrinking, ever-expanding family.

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘ wrapped its trilogy in 2023 without setting the box office on fire, leaving fans wondering whether Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang would ever headline another solo adventure. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ looming later this year, that question has only grown louder.

Newton addressed the possibility directly in a recent conversation, and her answer suggests the fate of a fourth ‘Ant-Man’ film may come down to something the studio can’t fully control. Speaking in an interview with The Direct, she made clear that continuing Cassie’s story isn’t really up to her, or even necessarily up to Marvel.

“I think that’s not up to me, and it’s up to the fans at the end of the day,” Newton explained, pointing to the influence fandoms have had on reviving other franchises long after they seemed finished. She argued that passionate audiences have repeatedly proven capable of bringing back projects through sheer demand, citing reboots and sequels that have returned decades after their original run.

Newton went on to describe just how responsive she believes Marvel has historically been to that kind of pressure, framing fan enthusiasm as a genuine driving force behind the franchise’s decision-making. “If fans want something, we listen,” she said, tying that sentiment directly to her own experience within the Marvel ecosystem specifically.

She also singled out the scale of Marvel’s fanbase compared to other projects she’s been part of, describing it as the biggest fandom she’s encountered in her career. That framing suggests Newton genuinely believes a coordinated push from fans could realistically shift the studio’s plans, rather than simply offering a diplomatic non-answer to a question she can’t control.

The comments arrive at a complicated moment for the ‘Ant-Man’ franchise’s future. ‘Quantumania’ underperformed relative to expectations, and Marvel has historically leaned toward trilogies for its character-driven franchises, with Iron Man, Captain America, and the Guardians of the Galaxy all wrapping up after three installments despite those characters continuing to appear elsewhere in the larger universe.

Only two MCU heroes have broken that pattern so far by receiving a fourth solo film, making the odds of an ‘Ant-Man’ sequel following suit somewhat uncertain even with strong fan support. Still, Newton’s comments leave the door open rather than closing it, framing continuation as a possibility contingent on demand rather than something already ruled out internally.

For a franchise that’s spent years navigating shrinking and growing stakes, both literally and figuratively, Newton’s outlook adds an interesting wrinkle to how fans might think about advocating for more Cassie Lang. Whether that translates into an actual greenlight remains to be seen, but her comments make clear she isn’t ready to say goodbye to the character just yet.
