Kathy Griffin Reveals Shocking Childhood Secrets, Calls Late Brother a ‘Pedophile’
Kathy Griffin has opened up about painful family memories, revealing serious allegations against her late brother while reflecting on the tragic deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.
In a recent YouTube video titled “Remembering Rob Reiner | Also, a Condemnation of Gun Violence,” Griffin shared her perspective on family struggles and abuse.
The comedian, 65, said she hadn’t spoken about her late brother Kenneth since her first memoir, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin. She explained that her parents, John and Maggie, appeared often on her reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, and described the challenges of growing up in a complicated family.
Griffin said Kenneth, who is now deceased, struggled with addiction and violence. “He lived on the streets, was extremely violent, so probably had an undiagnosed mental illness that obviously did not go well with crack cocaine,” she said. She recalled how her parents tried to help him throughout his life, drawing a parallel to the Reiners’ attempts to support their son, Nick, who faced substance abuse and mental health issues.
She also alleged that Kenneth had been abusive from his teen years. Griffin claimed that one of Kenneth’s former partners told her he had physically harmed her and locked her out in freezing Chicago weather.
She further alleged that another girlfriend reported he had m***** two children. “Having your oldest brother be a p***** is something that you don’t ever grow out, you don’t get over it. I wanted to kill him because all I could think about were all those children,” Griffin said, calling him a “wife-b***** p******.”
Griffin said she repeatedly reported her brother to the Los Angeles Police Department, adding, “I don’t know if any of my relatives know that to this day.” She emphasized that she did not feel obliged to protect him despite family pressure, noting, “So the expression that blood is thicker than water is not true in my case. I didn’t give a f*** that he was my older brother.”
The discussion of her brother came while Griffin reflected on the murder of Rob and Michele Reiner. On December 14, the couple was found dead by their daughter, Romy Reiner, and their son, Nick, was arrested shortly after. Griffin drew parallels to her own experiences watching her parents try to help Kenneth despite his abusive behavior.
This candid reflection shows how deep family trauma can leave lasting scars, and how complicated the balance of love and accountability can be in families dealing with abuse and addiction.
It’s brave for Griffin to speak openly about such difficult experiences, especially in connection to a high-profile tragedy. It reminds us that family issues and abuse can be hidden behind closed doors, and addressing them honestly is important.
