Excitement is building for a new Goonies movie as Ke Huy Quan shared the latest update on the sequel. While the script hasn’t been seen by the cast yet, a second draft has been submitted, and the team is very enthusiastic about it.

Quan revealed that he first heard about the project from Steven Spielberg, who was thrilled about moving it forward. “We try to do it, so let’s manifest it. I know we’ve been trying for the last 40 years, but I feel quite good about it,” Quan said.

He added that Chris Columbus and Spielberg are both developing the sequel, and Potsy Ponciroli is writing the script. Amblin Entertainment is producing with Columbus, Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario, while Lauren Shuler Donner is listed as executive producer.

The news of a sequel has been long anticipated by fans and the cast alike. At a February 2025 reunion for Quan’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star, Quan said, “It’s one of the most asked questions in my life. I would love for it to happen.” Fellow cast member Corey Feldman added, “All I can say is, get us all together. Everybody is looking good. Sean’s looking good. Josh is looking good. We’re all looking good still, and we’re all alive. Goonies never say die…There’s hope.”

Quan is particularly excited to revisit his iconic role as Richard “Data” Wang. “I would love to revisit that character and go on another adventure with my Goonies brothers and sisters,” he said. He also mentioned that he hopes to involve some of his current co-stars in the project.

This new Goonies sequel marks a major moment for fans who have waited decades to see the group back together. With the creative team of Spielberg, Columbus, and Ponciroli, along with a cast eager to return, expectations are high.
