Keith Urban seemed to take a jab at his marriage to Nicole Kidman during the premiere of his new show The Road, which aired on Sunday.

The series follows 12 rising musicians who compete for a chance to be Urban’s opening act as he tours across the United States.

During the episode, the 57-year-old country star performed his song Straight Line from his latest album High. The track caught fans’ attention because of its meaning and timing, as Urban and Kidman’s marriage recently came to an end.

Back in February 2024, Urban shared on Instagram that the song is about “wanting to break out of a soul-sucking routine that you might be stuck in.” He explained further, “Maybe in a relationship, a job, with creativity, with yourself … whatever it is!!” He said the song was meant to express “feeling alive again and getting out from under that dark cloud.”

Urban added that Straight Line opens the album because “it represents an energy and spirit that became a through line of the whole record.” He told fans the project touches on many emotions but that “a very human spirit runs through them all.”

Later in the episode, Urban was seen talking about how tough life on tour can be. He admitted that it can get “lonely and miserable” but said the show has to continue no matter what’s happening in one’s personal life.

News of Urban and Kidman’s separation surfaced in late September after 19 years of marriage. A source said at the time that “sometimes relationships just run their course.” The source also revealed that Kidman, 58, “did not want the separation and was trying to save things.”

The actress filed for divorce the following day. The couple share two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.

Shortly after the split was announced, rumors began to spread that Urban might be romantically linked to his guitarist Maggie Baugh, though nothing has been confirmed.

Urban’s comments and song choice have fueled speculation that Straight Line could reflect how he felt toward the end of his marriage. Whether the track was a hint at his struggles or just a coincidence, fans are now listening to his music with new meaning.
