Kelley Mack, ‘The Walking Dead’ Actress Dies at 33, Cause of Death Revealed as Tributes Pour In
Kelley Mack, an actress best known for her role in “The Walking Dead,” has died at the age of 33.
The news was confirmed through her family on CaringBridge, a site where loved ones share updates. Mack, whose birth name was Kelley Klebenow, died peacefully in her hometown of Cincinnati on Saturday. She had been battling glioma, a rare tumor that affects the brain or spinal cord.
On Tuesday, a post on her Instagram page shared the sad news along with a photo of her. “It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go,” the message read.
Friends, fellow actors, and fans have been expressing their sorrow. Alanna Masterson, who starred alongside Mack in “The Walking Dead,” wrote, “What an incredible human. So proud to have fought alongside her in our final episode together.”
Mack had 35 acting credits and five producer credits during her career. She became widely known for playing Addy in season 9 of “The Walking Dead.” She also played Penelope Jacobs in “Chicago Med” and appeared in the drama “9-1-1” on FOX.
Mack’s acting career wasn’t limited to TV shows. She also did voice work and appeared in commercials for brands like Dr. Pepper, Ross stores, Dairy Queen, and Chick-fil-A. Her passion for storytelling began when she received a small video camera for her birthday as a child. Soon after, she started acting in commercials.
Her family described her as someone with “warmth, creativity and unwavering support for those around her.” They also said her “infectious enthusiasm and dedication to her work inspired countless others in the industry and beyond.”
Mack grew up in Illinois, graduating from Hinsdale Central High School. She later earned a degree in cinematography from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in California.
She is survived by her parents, Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow, her sister Kathryn, her brother Parker, her grandparents Lois and Larry Klebenow, and her boyfriend Logan Lanier.
Her family’s statement said, “Kelley’s legacy will live on through her contributions to film and television, and in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her talent, kindness and vibrant spirit.”
