Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming movie with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone has run into another setback.

The film, which was shot in 2024, has now been removed from Paramount’s release schedule. The update comes from reporting shared in the original material and information from Paramount and Park County.

The project has been talked about for a long time, mostly because of its unusual premise and the people involved. Early descriptions called it a “slave comedy,” and the story centers on a young Black man working as a slave reenactor at a living history museum.

At some point, he learns something troubling about his girlfriend’s family history. Chloe East and Celeste Octavia also appear in the cast.

This film has faced delays before. It was first planned for summer 2025, then moved to spring 2026. The movie was not finished, and there were major rewrites during production, which changed parts of the original story.

With just a few months left before the most recent release date, Paramount decided to pull it from the calendar completely. According to the reasoning shared, Lamar is on tour and Parker and Stone are busy with the new season of South Park, so the team cannot finish the movie right now.

The film was eventually confirmed to be titled Whitney Springs. Trey Parker is directing, and Vernon Chatman wrote the script. The project is produced by Parker and Stone through Park County and by Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free through pgLang. Paramount’s CEO Brian Robbins has praised the script before, calling it “one of the funniest and original scripts” he has ever read.

There has also been confusion about how the movie will be released. Some reports suggested it might skip theaters and land on Paramount+, but that was later denied. Still, a Paramount-linked marketing page eventually confirmed the title and labeled the movie as a musical comedy, adding more questions about how much the project has changed.

Paramount is still handling all distribution rights, including theaters, home release, and streaming through Paramount+. But the movie does not have a new date, and after so many delays, it is unclear when it will be finished.
