Kevin Feige Calls This MCU Actress “One of the Greatest Castings Ever”
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its perfect casting choices. For example, fans everywhere instantly link Robert Downey Jr. to Iron Man, Chris Evans to Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson to Black Widow and so on. Over the years, Marvel Studios has built a reputation for picking the right actors to bring their heroes to life.
Now, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, has shared who he considers one of their best casting decisions. In a recent chat with reporters, Feige pointed to Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel. “She’s one of the greatest bits of casting we’ve ever done,” Feige said, adding, “I can’t wait to see her somewhere.”
For those who don’t know, Vellani was just a newcomer when she got the role of Kamala Khan. Back in 2020, her aunt spotted a casting call and encouraged her to audition. After sending in a self-taped audition, she was invited to Marvel Studios in Los Angeles for a screen test.
Later, she also did a virtual audition over Zoom. By September 2020, she officially became Ms. Marvel.
Fans and critics quickly fell in love with her. According to Rotten Tomatoes, “Ms. Marvel” scored a 98% approval rating, with many praising the show’s fresh style and Vellani’s performance. Critics said, “Ms. Marvel is a genuinely fresh addition to the MCU—both stylistically and substantively—with Iman Vellani ably powering proceedings with her super-sized charisma.”
Even though “The Marvels,” which featured Vellani alongside Brie Larson, ended up being a major box office flop, fans continued to praise Vellani’s take on Kamala Khan. Her energy and talent stood out, no matter how the movie performed overall.
So what’s next for her in the MCU? Feige made it clear he hopes to bring her back. He also spoke briefly about the possibility of a Young Avengers project. In the ending of “The Marvels,” fans saw Kamala Khan trying to recruit Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop for what looked like the start of a new young superhero team. But when asked directly if Young Avengers is officially in development, Feige chose his words carefully.
“Potentially,” he said. “In that case, it comes down to where’s the best story and where is the best strange alchemy. Who would be fun to see them with? Each other, because that’s what the Young Avengers are, but also mixing it up more.”
At this point, it’s unclear whether Young Avengers will be a movie, a Disney+ show, or something else entirely. But one thing is obvious, Marvel has big plans for Iman Vellani. And fans are ready to see her return.
