Ryan Coogler is officially working on Black Panther 3. This was confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige during a recent press event for the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps movie.

Feige said that Coogler is now focused on the next Black Panther film. He also hinted that they already know when the film will fit into the Marvel timeline, but no release date has been announced yet.

Feige joked about it saying, “We know [when on the timeline it is], and if he’s telling you he doesn’t, that’s perfect.”

Talks about a third Black Panther movie actually started a while ago. Back in November 2022, Coogler and Feige were already discussing the idea. Then in January 2023, Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, said that everyone needed a little break before jumping into another film.

According to Wright, the cast and Coogler needed some time to “regroup” before starting again.

By the end of 2024, rumors started spreading that Denzel Washington might join the cast. Reports say Coogler had serious talks with Washington about a role in Black Panther 3. These rumors turned out to be true when Coogler himself confirmed it in June 2025. In a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Coogler talked about his hopes of working with Washington.

He said, “I’m dying to work with Denzel and I’m hoping we can make that happen.” He also added, “I got every intention of working with him in that movie and as long as he’s interested — it’s going to happen.” Coogler praised Washington, calling him a “living legend and a great mentor” and said, “He’s all about looking out for us.”

Now Feige has confirmed the rest.

Another rumor that has been going around is about Marvel planning to recast T’Challa. But producer Nate Moore, who is Marvel’s VP of Production & Development, recently cleared that up.

Moore said that there are no current plans to find a new actor for T’Challa. He explained that they haven’t even started serious talks about the next Black Panther movie because Coogler was at the time still working on Sinners. Moore didn’t completely rule out the idea of a recast someday, but for now, he said, no decisions have been made.

Even though Moore announced that he will leave Marvel Studios in March 2025 to work as an independent producer, he confirmed that he’ll return to help produce Black Panther 3 with Marvel Studios.

For now, fans can relax knowing that Black Panther 3 is definitely on the way, and Coogler and Marvel are taking their time to get it right.
