Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Will Be Street-Level Story Fans Hoped For Since ‘No Way Home’
Spider-Man fans finally got the news they’ve been waiting for: Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is heading back to the streets. After years of big, multiverse-sized stories, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that Spider-Man’s next movie will take things back to basics.
Ever since Spider-Man: No Way Home came out, fans hoped the next film would focus on Peter Parker fighting crime in New York, without all the universe-jumping. But rumors over the years made fans unsure. Reports teased all kinds of villains from Knull to Hobgoblin.
Some insiders even said the movie might mix street-level crime with multiverse action, and names like Kingpin were thrown into the mix. But when Jon Bernthal’s Punisher was announced to appear in the movie a few weeks ago, fans really started to believe Spider-Man was going back to his roots.
Now, thanks to Collider’s report from the recent Fantastic Four press event, it’s official. Kevin Feige confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will focus on Peter Parker as a street-level hero once again. Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle will join him in the movie, making fans of classic Marvel stories very happy. Feige said this marks a new phase for Holland’s Spider-Man.
Feige explained, “I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events.”
Feige also talked about why this smaller-scale story is the perfect time to introduce characters Spider-Man hasn’t interacted with yet, like The Punisher.
“So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover… I don’t want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”
Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is confirmed to direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He was in talks as early as late 2024, and filming is set to begin in mid-2025. The movie is scheduled to release on July 31, 2026.
Sadie Sink has joined the cast, while Liza Colón-Zayas has also signed on. Jon Bernthal returns as Punisher, and Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are back too, though their roles in the story haven’t been fully revealed yet.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the start of a more grounded chapter for Peter Parker in the MCU. For fans who wanted Holland’s Spider-Man to feel more like the friendly neighborhood hero, the wait is finally over.
