Kevin Feige Meets a Doctor Doom Cosplayer in a New Photo That Captures ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Fever
Few villains inspire cosplay quite like Doctor Doom, and the green cloak and iron mask have been popping up on convention floors for years. Fans were recreating the look as far back as May 2025, long before Marvel confirmed what Robert Downey Jr.’s version would look like on screen. Since then, the character has gone from a fan favorite to the face of Marvel’s entire ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ campaign.
Even the people running the studio have caught the bug. Kevin Feige showed up on stage at the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July wearing a Doctor Doom hat, and he wore one again during a panel at D23 in August. It was a small, playful gesture, but it said a lot about where Marvel’s head is at.
That playful energy has now spilled into a new photo. Feige is seen posing with a Doctor Doom cosplayer, grinning in a dark jacket and cap beside a figure in a full green hooded cloak, silver mask, armored gauntlets and a chain draped across the chest. The cosplayer stands with arms crossed in classic Doom fashion, while the Marvel Studios president looks like he’s having the time of his life.

This isn’t just a fun photo op for a studio boss. Feige has spent years pushing for Downey in this exact role, and the Russo brothers have said the casting was Feige’s idea. The conversation reportedly traces back to the 2005 ‘Fantastic Four’ film, when Downey was considered for Doom.
Feige has said he chose Downey after watching his work in ‘Oppenheimer’, arguing that an actor who played the most iconic hero could play the most iconic villain. He has also called Downey the greatest actor of his time and told Empire that Doom had never been done right on screen. When it’s your own casting dream coming true, posing with a cosplayer makes perfect sense.
Not every fan has been convinced, though. Doom has only appeared once in the MCU, in the post-credits scene of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, and some viewers have complained that he hasn’t had enough buildup. Feige addressed the complaint at San Diego Comic-Con, pointing out that Thanos had very little setup before ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ either.
His argument is that ‘Doomsday’ is meant to be the introduction to Doom’s story, with the audience learning about him layer by layer. He added that the movie is designed to work both for longtime comic readers and for viewers who have no idea who Victor von Doom is. A friendly photo with a cosplayer feels like the lighter side of that same confidence.

The look itself has been a huge hit. Doom’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ costume has been on display at both San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con, where online reaction was overwhelmingly positive. The Russos have also said it’s their favorite costume out of all the Marvel films they’ve directed.
Merchandise has followed. Marvel’s booth at New York Comic Con featured Doom-inspired apparel, including a varsity jacket and a backpack, and collectors can already find a 1:6-scale Doom figure from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles. When the marketing is this deep, it’s no wonder cosplayers are turning up in full armor.
The numbers suggest the hype isn’t limited to Marvel’s inner circle. The first ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer reportedly hit 503 million views, the second biggest launch in history. The film arrives in U.S. theaters on December 18, with early openings in markets such as China on December 16.
It will also face stiff competition, since ‘Dune: Part Three’ opens on the same day in a clash fans have dubbed ‘Dunesday’. And Doom’s story won’t end there, because ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
For now, the picture of Feige beaming next to a fan in full Doom regalia is a reminder of what Marvel is chasing: that mix of villain menace and pure fan joy that made the original ‘Avengers’ films feel like events. Whether the movie delivers on that promise remains to be seen, but the studio boss certainly looks confident.
Can Doctor Doom live up to the hype as the MCU’s next major villain?
