Marvel Studios has spent the better part of two years teasing its next mega crossover event with only scattered details, but that carefully guarded silence is starting to crack. Anticipation for the next chapter of the Avengers saga has been building steadily since Robert Downey Jr’s shocking return to the franchise was first revealed, and fans have been hungry for any real look at what is coming.

That wait is about to get a little shorter, at least for those in China. Marvel Studios has begun setting up an elaborate promotional display for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ at the Shanghai Expo, giving the public its first tangible look at physical sets built for the film ahead of its release later this year.

According to reports, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is heading to Shanghai this weekend for the event, which will put ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ front and center as the booth opens to the public on July 11. Construction photos that have already circulated online show two fully recreated locations from the film, including Doctor Doom’s throne room and the interior of the X-Mansion.

The throne room recreation has drawn particular attention since it closely matches a set of leaked images that first surfaced online months ago, images many assumed at the time were AI-generated fakes. With the Shanghai booth now confirming those details as accurate, it appears Robert Downey Jr’s take on Victor Von Doom will indeed be seen seated on that very throne when the film arrives.

The X-Mansion portion of the display is just as detailed, featuring recreations of both Professor X’s wheelchair and Magneto’s chair, tucked inside what appears to be the room the two characters have famously shared throughout X-Men lore. Additional banners scattered throughout the booth reference other key locations expected to appear in the film, including the Baxter Building, Wakanda, and Avengers Headquarters, hinting at just how many corners of the Marvel multiverse this crossover intends to touch.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo from a script by Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron, marking the duo’s return to the franchise after helming ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The film centers on heroes from three separate universes colliding against a shared existential threat, according to Marvel’s official synopsis, and features an almost overwhelming ensemble cast pulling from the MCU, the X-Men films, and beyond.

That cast list includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, and Downey Jr, alongside franchise newcomers like Channing Tatum as Gambit and Simu Liu reprising his role as Shang-Chi. The sheer scale of the lineup has only fueled speculation about how the Russos plan to juggle so many characters across a single film.

While the Shanghai display marks the first real-world glimpse at the movie’s production design, it is far from the only major moment fans have circled on their calendars this month. Marvel Studios is also set to return to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time since 2024, with a panel scheduled for July 25 in Hall H, a session widely expected to finally deliver the film’s first official trailer.

Between the Shanghai booth and the looming Comic Con panel, Marvel appears to be shifting into a much more public phase of its ‘Doomsday’ rollout after months of relative secrecy. Details about the film’s plot have remained scarce, though director Joe Russo has previously indicated the story draws inspiration from multiple classic ‘Secret Wars’ comic arcs.

Which 'Avengers: Doomsday' reveal has you most excited?

For a franchise that has kept fans guessing since Downey Jr’s surprise Comic Con reveal two years ago, this new wave of promotion suggests the studio is finally ready to start peeling back the curtain. With the Shanghai Expo booth opening its doors and a Hall H panel right around the corner, the next few weeks could bring the clearest picture yet of what Marvel has planned for its biggest crossover event since ‘Endgame’.
