Kevin Feige Says Hugh Jackman Will Play Wolverine “Until He’s 90” as He Talks About What’s Next for Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU
Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, recently shared some interesting updates about the future of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both characters officially became part of the MCU with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024, but fans know that these two actors have been playing these roles for a long time before that.
Speaking with the media during a round-table event, Feige said that there have already been talks about what comes next for these characters.
He said that he, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman have all been discussing future plans. According to ComicBook, Feige explained, “There have absolutely been discussions. We’re in touch with Ryan a lot. So the answer is yes.”
When Feige was asked directly about Jackman’s future as Wolverine, he gave a funny response. Referring to one of Deadpool’s jokes from their latest movie, Feige said, “He’s doing it until he’s 90, man.” It’s not a solid confirmation that Jackman will stick around forever, but it shows that Marvel definitely wants to keep him involved for as long as possible.
At the moment, Marvel hasn’t officially said when or where we’ll see Deadpool and Wolverine again. There have been reports that Ryan Reynolds is working on a new X-Men related project, but it might not be a full X-Men movie set in the main MCU storyline.
Fans of these two heroes will remember that Jackman first appeared as Wolverine back in the original X-Men movie in 2000, produced by 20th Century Fox. He became a fan favorite and continued to play the role in many other films over the years. Ryan Reynolds, meanwhile, first played Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
That version of Deadpool wasn’t well received by fans, especially because of how different it was from the comics. Reynolds kept pushing to make a proper Deadpool movie, and his efforts paid off when Deadpool was released in 2016. The film was a huge hit, leading to a sequel in 2018 and eventually to Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024.
For now, fans will have to wait for Marvel to officially announce the next project for these two characters. But Feige’s comments make it clear that both Deadpool and Wolverine have a future in the MCU.
