Kevin Feige is one of the most recognizable producers in show business, and his trademark look needs no introduction. Wherever he appears, from Comic-Con panels to red carpets, he is usually wearing a baseball cap. Fans have long treated those hats as a kind of running joke about the Marvel Studios president.

The habit goes beyond personal style. Feige typically showcases the logo of the latest Marvel Studios movie in production during public appearances, such as the Black Widow hat he wore at the Phase 4 reveal at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. He once said at a fan Q&A that he owns dozens of hats, according to ComicBook.com.

That history is why a glass display case at this year’s Pioneer of the Year Dinner got so much attention. The Hollywood Reporter shared a video showing Feige’s extensive hat collection on display as the Marvel boss was honored at the dinner. The case holds rows of caps, including ones with S.H.I.E.L.D., Hulk and Avengers designs, and the post passed 34,000 views on X.

The caps carry a built-in story. Feige gifts the movie crew hats featuring some graphic element of the film, and the idea was later turned into retail products. When Marvel Studios’ 10th anniversary approached, the Disney Store collaborated with New Era on a line of caps, with 5 hats in the series running from ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ to ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

The occasion was the 2026 Pioneer of the Year Award from the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, presented at The Beverly Hilton on Sept. 30. Proceeds from the dinner support the foundation’s Pioneers Assistance Fund, which provides financial assistance to working and retired professionals in the motion picture distribution and exhibition community during times of need. The award itself is a tradition of more than 75 years, given to industry figures whose leadership, service and philanthropy are exceptional.

When the honor was announced, committee co-chairman Kyle Davies called Feige “a dynamic producer and executive,” as The Hollywood Reporter reported. The list of past honorees includes Tom Cruise, Kate Hudson, Greta Gerwig, Kathleen Kennedy, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michael D. Eisner, so Feige joins very select company.

His credentials are hard to argue with. Feige became president of Marvel Studios in 2008 after the success of ‘Iron Man’, and was named chief creative officer of Marvel in 2019. He has overseen 37 Marvel Cinematic Universe films that have grossed more than $32 billion worldwide, with 11 of them crossing the $1 billion mark.

The Pioneer award is only the latest milestone. Feige received the Producers Guild of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024. A graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, he sits on the school’s Board of Councilors and endowed the Kevin Feige Division of Film & Television Production there last year.

The timing also matters. The honor arrives as Marvel prepares for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is set for release on Dec. 18 and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with Robert Downey Jr. returning as Victor von Doom. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on Dec. 17, 2027, so the franchise is entering one of its biggest stretches in years.

Some observers have noted that Marvel movies may not be the guaranteed hits they once were. Even so, Feige is credited with overseeing a massive shift in the way the industry works, as the MCU’s cross-continuity storytelling inspired multiple studios to follow. That influence on theatrical exhibition is a big reason a dinner supporting the distribution and exhibition community chose him.

For fans, the hat display may be the most charming detail of the night. It reflects a producer who treats every film as a milestone worth commemorating, down to the headwear. As Marvel heads into its next chapter, it is easy to imagine the collection growing by at least a couple of new designs.

Which Marvel-themed hat would you most want in your collection?
