Takashi Yamazaki has spent years building a reputation for making Godzilla frightening again. After the international success of ‘Godzilla Minus One’, which grossed more than $116 million worldwide, expectations for the follow-up have been enormous. That is why every glimpse of the sequel’s monsters gets dissected the moment it appears online.

‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ picks up in 1949, two years after the events of its predecessor, with Yamazaki returning as writer, director and VFX lead. The film opens in Japan on November 3, Godzilla Day, followed by a North American release from GKIDS on November 6. It is also being billed as the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX.

The title itself has fueled plenty of speculation. King Ghidorah is sometimes known as Monster Zero, and the trailer teased the three-headed monster with a familiar shriek and golden lightning rather than a full look. Fans have been waiting to see how Yamazaki’s team would reimagine the creature, and now a King Ghidorah design leak for ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ has finally given them something to chew on.

The reveal comes from a Yahoo! Fleamarket listing for Toho’s DESKTOP MONSTER collective Vol. 2 line. The already-sold listing, titled “DESKTOP MONSTER collective Vol.2 King Ghidorah (2026)”, shows a small figure of the monster on a clear acrylic base with a rocky element. Photos of both the sculpt and the packaged piece circulated online.

The figure presents a golden and beige dragon with 3 long, slender, curving necks and horned, spiked heads. Its large wings feature prominent spines and structural detailing, and the pose is a dynamic crouch or landing stance. These pieces are small PVC and ABS collectibles in the 10 cm range, designed to be arranged together on a desk.

Fans were quick to notice that the sculpt strongly resembles the MonsterVerse version of King Ghidorah, especially in its smaller, more refined heads. Online discussion also pointed out differences, including longer tails, spike-like protrusions along the back and a different wing structure.

There is a second reference point as well. The design bears a minor resemblance to the King Ghidorah seen in ‘Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle’, a 2021 short film Yamazaki directed for a motion simulator ride at the Seibuen amusement park. That earlier collaboration suggests he may have carried certain design instincts forward into the new movie.

Toho has not confirmed that the ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ version uses the ride design, so any comparison remains an educated guess. Still, a filmmaker who already built his own three-headed monster for a ride has a clear head start on bringing the character into the ‘Minus’ universe.

The DESKTOP MONSTER collective series has previously featured figures such as Godzilla (2023), Godzilla (2016) and King Ghidorah (1991). Vol. 2 now adds the 2026 Ghidorah alongside other ‘Minus Zero’ designs. A Godzilla 2026 figure from the line has already been displayed in Japan, with a release set for August 5.

These are official Toho products meant as affordable display pieces, which makes the leak feel more credible than a typical rumor. Even so, toy sculpts are often simplified for production, so the final look on the big screen could differ in details like proportions, textures and movement.

Trailers have already offered hints about the creature’s abilities. Coverage of the September trailer pointed to massive wings, two tails and lightning-like gravity beams fired from all 3 mouths. Together with the figure’s spined wings and curving necks, that paints a picture of a very dangerous monster.

The sequel also arrives with a strong supporting cast, including returning stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe, plus newcomer Min Tanaka as the biologist Kanji Murakami. With Ghidorah now apparently locked in as the headline threat, the stakes look higher than a solo Godzilla rampage.

For longtime kaiju fans, the leak is a reminder of how closely the Godzilla community follows every scrap of merchandise. A single sold-out listing was enough to spark days of debate over necks, tails and wings, and it will not be long before the film answers every question.
