Kit Harington Admits Kissing Sophie Turner Onscreen Felt “Odd” After Years as Stark Siblings
Kit Harington has opened up about what it was like to shoot romantic scenes with Sophie Turner in their new horror movie, and he told the story in an interview with E! News.
Harington and Turner worked together for almost ten years on HBO’s Game of Thrones, where they played the Stark siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark. The show ended in 2019, and last year they reunited to film The Dreadful. Even though they were excited to work together again, acting as lovers instead of family felt strange for both of them.
Harington explained to E! News that Turner was the one who sent him the script. He said he read it and realized the characters were supposed to be in a relationship. He remembered thinking, “These guys, these are lovers, right?” and said he felt weird about it. He also laughed about having to stand on an apple box for their kissing scenes because Turner is taller than him. He said it was a little embarrassing but still fine. Once they started filming, he said their friendship came back right away, adding, “It felt like being with family. It really did.”
Turner talked about the same experience earlier on Late Night With Seth Meyers. She said she didn’t notice how many kissing scenes were in the script until after she had already sent it to Harington. She remembered him texting her, “Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really fu*** weird, Soph.”* Turner said she went back to look at the script again and suddenly realized, “Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.” When the day came to film their first kiss, she said both of them struggled, explaining, “We are both retching. Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst.”
The Dreadful is a 15th-century horror story written and directed by Natasha Kermani. Turner plays Anne, a woman living far from society with her mother-in-law. When a man from Anne’s past, played by Harington, returns, her quiet life begins to unravel. The movie also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O’Fuarain and Jonathan Howard.
