The Kardashian-Jenner family has been a fixture on Hulu since 2022, when the family left E! for the streamer and launched ‘The Kardashians.’ Their name has been synonymous with reality television for years, and so far the family’s scripted ventures have mostly happened behind the scenes. Now one of its biggest names is stepping in front of the camera in a very different kind of project.

The shift comes just as ‘The Kardashians’ is heading into its eighth season on Hulu, with the new season set to premiere this month. It also continues a trend of the family expanding into producing, with Kim Kardashian’s slate including unscripted titles like ‘Team Moms: Baseball’ and ‘The Girls.’

According to an exclusive from Deadline, Kylie Jenner is set to headline and executive produce ‘Bachelorette Weekend’ (working title), a thriller drama finalizing a straight-to-series order at Hulu. It marks her first major scripted acting role, and the news spread fast, with one X post about it drawing nearly 300,000 views.

The series centers on a bachelorette weekend that turns deadly. Jenner plays the bride, who winds up murdered in the pool, and her closest girlfriends all become suspects. The story gradually reveals what happened over the weekend and how each friend may have played a role in the tragedy.

Jenner’s character is described as the “North Star” of the series, which pieces together the events that led to the murder. That makes her the narrative anchor even though the story is told through the investigation that follows. It is a high-profile starting point for an actress who has mostly appeared as herself on screen.

The show is based on an unpublished book by Flora Collins, developed by author-screenwriter Lauren Oliver’s company StoryGiants. Oliver, known for ‘Before I Fall’ and ‘Delirium,’ wrote the TV adaptation and will executive produce. The adaptation was developed internally at Kapital Entertainment by Aaron and Jaiden Kaplan.

Kardashian brought the project into the picture through her first-look deal at 20th Television. She felt the material was a great starring vehicle for her younger sister and passed it along, and both quickly came on board. The package was then pitched to Hulu, which bought it preemptively before moving to a straight-to-series order that is still being negotiated.

Jenner, Kardashian, Oliver and Aaron Kaplan will executive produce, with Jaiden Kaplan serving as co-executive producer. The series is a collaboration between Kapital Entertainment, 20th Television and Hulu. It also expands Kapital’s Hulu slate, which already includes ‘You Deserve to Know’ with Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley and ‘What Remains’ with Kerry Washington.

Jenner has dipped her toes into acting before, with a cameo in Charli XCX’s mockumentary ‘The Moment,’ which was released in January. ‘Bachelorette Weekend’ is a much bigger step, positioning her as the lead of a full series. She also told Vanity Fair in March that she wanted to do more acting after receiving a few scripts that didn’t feel right yet.

That context makes this project feel like a deliberate choice rather than a quick pivot. A mystery-thriller gives her a role that is dramatic and central to the plot, but also one built around a character who is largely seen through the eyes of others. It could be a smart way to ease into scripted television while still leading the show.

Plenty of details remain unannounced. Hulu has not set a premiere date, and the other members of the bachelorette party have not been cast. The production details are also still being finalized, and neither Jenner nor Hulu executives had commented on the project at the time of the report.

For now, the reaction online suggests curiosity more than certainty. Viewers will be watching to see who joins Jenner as the group of suspects and whether the series can deliver the twisty, binge-friendly mystery that the premise promises. Hulu has a strong track record with genre dramas, but this will be a different kind of test for one of its best-known reality stars.
