‘L.A.’s Finest’ Star Jessica Alba’s (45) Smoky Black Gown Steals the Spotlight at the Academy Museum Gala
Few red carpets kick off awards-season chatter quite like the Academy Museum Gala. Often nicknamed the Met Gala of the West because it takes place in Los Angeles, the fundraiser has become a go-to stop for stars who want to make a statement. It also lands right after the worldwide fashion weeks wrap, so plenty of looks arrive straight off the runway.
This year’s event was the 6th annual edition, held Oct. 17 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Charlize Theron received the Icon Award, Colman Domingo took the Vantage Award, and John Carpenter was given the Luminary Award, with Rolex partnering on the evening. Proceeds support the museum’s exhibitions, public screenings and educational programs.
Among the guests who made the biggest impression was Jessica Alba, who also sits on the gala’s host committee. That committee includes names like Judd Apatow, Leslie Mann, Adrien Brody and Georgina Chapman. Her Academy Museum Gala look has already drawn plenty of attention, with a set of Getty Images photos pulling in more than 247,500 views online.

The ‘Sin City’ star went with a dramatic take on classic black. She wore a low-cut strapless evening gown with a romantic ruffle-trimmed neckline and an eye-catching train. The gown is by Tamara Ralph.
The real showpiece was the back. The layers grew progressively longer, creating a tiered finish that looked like smoke spilling around the hem, which gave the skirt volume and movement as she moved down the carpet. The ruffled neckline and the ruffled train echo each other, so the whole silhouette feels intentional from every angle.
Her styling kept the focus on the dress. A bewitching gemstone necklace was the main accessory, and soft, loose waves in her hair rounded out the look. It was glamorous without feeling overworked, which is no small feat on a carpet this crowded.

Alba wasn’t the only person making headlines for her arrival. Coverage of the night described her and Danny Ramirez as a new couple who attended the event but did not pose together on the carpet, with him dressed in Saint Laurent. That meant the spotlight stayed squarely on each of their individual looks.
Jessica Alba and her boyfriend, actor Danny Ramirez, both attended the 2026 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, making separate appearances on the red carpet! 🖤✨ Jessica looked absolutely gorgeous in a strapless black gown featuring a romantic ruffled neckline, a sleek, figure-hugging silhouette and a dramatic cascading train. She completed the elegant look with sparkling diamond earrings and a delicate necklace featuring a green gemstone pendant.

Black turned out to be a recurring theme across the evening. Charlize Theron turned heads in daring sheer black lace, while Jessica Lange made a rare red carpet appearance in an elegant floor-length black lace gown. Jessica Biel went for high drama in black velvet with a thigh-high slit and extravagant feather detailing.
Other guests took the glamour in different directions. Demi Moore wore a dramatic two-tone gown, and Kate Hudson embraced old Hollywood glamour in a sparkling strapless creation. Against that backdrop, Alba’s ruffled, train-heavy gown stood out for its texture and movement rather than for sheer flash.
Stunning as always! ✨ Jessica Alba absolutely stole the show, looking drop-dead gorgeous on the red carpet at the Academy Museum Gala. Absolute perfection! 💫 (🎥: @JPASC24) #JessicaAlba #AcademyMuseumGala #RedCarpet #filmyape #filmysonic https://t.co/gDt10yD6v5

The evening’s music came courtesy of Taylor Swift. She arrived in a strapless, pale blue pleated silk Dior gown with a beaded bow, then performed “The Fate of Ophelia” for the first time live, with acoustic accompaniment. Alba and Theron were among the guests seen enjoying the performances and singing along.
It was a fitting capper for a gala that blends fashion, film history and fundraising in one night. Alba’s gown may not have been the loudest on the carpet, but its smoky train and ruffled neckline made it one of the most memorable.
